‘I don’t like having my photo taken. How do I know I’ll feel at ease in front of the camera?’

‘How can I be certain you’ll take photos me and my family love and want to hang on the wall?’

These are questions you may have asked yourself when considering a family photography session.

Don’t worry. So many of the people who have come through the doors of my Westmeath studio had questions exactly like yours.

They have different careers and backgrounds. Some have big families, and others have just welcomed their first child.

But the one thing they all have in common is that they chose me as their family photographer.

Despite feeling nervous or unsure, they trusted me to document the love their family shares. And that’s a huge honour and a privilege, but it’s no accident.

I’m proud to say that in my 6 years as a family photographer, I have built a reputation for allowing families to feel their most calm, comfortable, and confident during a session.

And that translates into beautiful, authentic imagery.

Wondering how exactly I create this environment?

Here’s a little glimpse of the love and care I pour into each and every session…

If you’re letting nerves hold you back from getting family photos taken, I hope it puts your mind at ease.

I draw on my experience as a mum

I have four kids of my own so I know what it's like to have your hands full. It’s part of the reason I like to step into a mothering role during a shoot.

I love being around kids — from tiny newborns to growing teenagers and every age in between — and I have a knack for bringing out their best and putting them at ease.

Whether it’s eliciting a cuter-than-cute smile from a toddler or soothing a crying baby.

I’ve spent years nurturing four babies of my own and love that I get to bring that same energy to the little ones in my studio.

(While we’re on the topic, believe me when I say I don’t care if your kids are running amuck during a session. It’s all part of the fun!)

Rebecca, who recently had a family photo shoot, shared some beautiful feedback with me.

She said, “Laura is not just a photographer. She goes miles beyond that title, she is a creator, a storyteller, and a mam, not just to her own babies but to every child that comes into her studio.

“She has this mothering role that warms the hearts of the kids. They feel safe and can just be themselves.”

I lean into my values

Photography isn’t just about capturing beautiful images; it’s also about providing an exceptional client experience.

I want every second of this — from booking to shooting to viewing your photos — to be something you cherish forever.

That means gently guiding you through a session so rather than fretting about how you look or which way to pose, you can relax with your family.

It means being open, friendly, and approachable, so you can confide in me during a session and share your preferences or concerns.

I focus on connection

Remember what I said earlier about how people from all different walks of life come into my Westmeath studio? Every family that I have the honour of photographing has their own story.

They have a connection that can not be summed up in words, but, when the conditions are right, that indescribable bond shines through in a photograph.

My style isn’t about getting everyone to sit still and smile perfectly. It’s about capturing the unique connection that belongs to you and your family alone.

Part of my process is about building genuine relationships with my clients. I’m not just getting to know you better, I’m allowing you to feel confident, comfortable, and content.

I want you to know that your memories are in safe hands.

A final thought

There are so many family photographers to choose from and I understand that picking the right one is an investment.

You are trusting someone to put you and your family at ease and to create a record of the bond you share; one that will last for decades.

With me, family photography sessions are about more than capturing a few nice photos. It’s about fostering an environment of love and connection.

I want to see you and your little family at your most relaxed; to witness what you’re like when it’s just the few of you home alone in your little love bubble.

That’s the energy I bring into every session and it’s the reason why my photos are an authentic record of your love.
